This setback, coupled with the loss of his design position, led to Laurent’s hospitalization. Following a period of recovery, Laurent ventured out and established his own fashion company, eventually becoming one of the most influential designers of the 1960s and 1970s. Laurent’s legacy is characterized by his impeccably tailored women’s suits and his pioneering creation of the first women’s tuxedo. Notably, he became the first designer to expand from haute couture into ready-to-wear, playing a pivotal role in democratizing fashion by making chic ready-to-wear attire accessible to the mass market. Laurent’s ready-to-wear line was distinguished by boutiques known as Rive Gauche, a name that would subsequently be commemorated through a signature perfume. Throughout the late 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent himself remained actively involved as the main designer of the collection. Following his retirement, the brand saw the creative contributions of esteemed designers such as Alber Elbaz, Tom Ford, and Stefano Pilati. Tragically, Yves Saint Laurent passed away in 2008, leaving an unmatched legacy in the fashion world. Throughout its history, the brand has expanded beyond clothing and successfully ventured into cosmetics and perfumes. Notably, YSL’s fragrance collection includes iconic scents such as Y for women (1964), Rive Gauche (1970), Opium (1977), Kourous (1981), and Paris (1983), which have become timeless classics in the perfume industry.
