Laurie Stern, the accomplished perfumer behind Velvet & Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery, dedicated over a decade to immersing herself in the art of perfume-making after transitioning from the wedding flower industry. Drawing inspiration from her cherished feline companions, whose essence is captured in the intricate and imaginative packaging, Stern named her perfume enterprise after them. Located in the Perfumer’s Garden, nestled above the breathtaking San Francisco Bay, Stern’s cats find solace amidst the fragrant blooms that ultimately find their way into her exquisite perfumes.
For Stern, the Purrfumery symbolizes the convergence of her extensive studies and diverse passions, including her love for flowers, animals, Victoriana, bespoke gifts, sourcing the finest worldly materials, and embracing moments of renewal surrounded by nature’s beauty. Established in 2006, her creations encompass an array of mesmerizing perfumes, colognes, body oils, bath salts, and body frostings, meticulously crafted using natural essences derived from florals, woods, seeds, spices, and citruses.
As an advocate for ethical practices, Stern’s business is certified by Leaping Bunny, a coalition of eight animal protection organizations that ensures both her ingredients and those supplied by her partners abstain from animal testing. Many of the ingredients used in her perfumes are sourced directly from her own Perfumer’s Garden, with even the beeswax sourced from her personal apiary. Blending each delightful scent with organic grape alcohol and jojoba bases, Stern staunchly avoids the use of synthetics or harsh chemicals such as phthalates. Her cruelty-free perfumes are devoid of any traces of animal musk or fixatives.
