Trussardi is a renowned Italian fashion and lifestyle brand that commemorated its centennial in 2011. Originally established as a glove factory by Dante Trussardi in 1911, the company flourished in this field and went on to become the appointed glovemaker for the British Royal Family. However, its most notable achievements came after Dante’s grandson, Nicola, assumed control of the company in 1965. Leveraging his youth and astute business acumen amidst the societal changes of the 1960s, Nicola propelled Trussardi to international acclaim as a prestigious fashion house and purveyor of luxury lifestyle goods.
A pivotal transformation implemented by Nicola was the adoption of a distinctive logo—the Trussardi Greyhound—which became an emblematic symbol adorning their products, providing the brand with a unique identifier in the marketplace. Under Nicola’s guidance, Trussardi expanded its product range beyond gloves, encompassing luggage, handbags, home and office accessories, as well as trendsetting leather jackets. Throughout this evolution, the company remained steadfast in its commitment to fine Italian craftsmanship, earning a reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality items that resonated across nations.
In 1976, Trussardi inaugurated its inaugural boutique in Milan, which continues to serve as the flagship store to this day. Additionally, Trussardi products found their way into the United States and major European markets, solidifying the brand’s international presence. In the 1980s, Trussardi made further strides by venturing into fashion and introducing menswear and a women’s line. Notably, they spearheaded the practice of hosting their fashion shows in theatrical halls, which were groundbreaking in opening them to the public.
Under Nicola’s leadership, Trussardi Group expanded its offerings to include Trussardi Jeans, Trussardi Home, Trussardi Baby, Trussardi Junior, Trussardi Eyewear, and Trussardi Perfumes. Trussardi was among the vanguard of Italian companies striving to enhance the distinction of the coveted “Made in Italy” label. In the 1990s, the brand embarked on a successful foray into the Asian market, broadening its global reach.
While the untimely demise of Nicola Trussardi in 1999 due to a car accident brought profound grief, it did not halt the company’s triumphs. Trussardi remains a proudly run family business, with Beatrice Trussardi—the fourth generation of the family—steering its course. Under Beatrice’s stewardship, the company has expanded to encompass brands such as Trussardi 1911, Tru Trussardi, and TJ.
Since 2005, Trussardi has collaborated with Selective Beauty in the creation of fragrances. The first fragrance, Trussardi for women, was introduced in a bottle encased in leather, a design personally fashioned by Nicola Trussardi himself. Notably, Trussardi boasts an impressive repertoire of 66 perfumes in its fragrance base, with creations dating back to 1983 and the latest additions as recent as 2023. These fragrances have been meticulously formulated through collaborations with esteemed perfumers such as Alberto Morillas, Alexandra Kosinski, Jean Guichard, Sophie Labbe, IFF, Aurelien Guichard, Natalie Gracia-Cetto, Louise Turner, Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann, Lucas Sieuzac, David Apel, Nathalie Lorson, Daphne Bugey, Anne Flipo, Beatrice Piquet, Alienor Massenet, Pierre-Constantin Guéros, Amandine Clerc-Marie, Sylvie Fischer, Quentin Bisch, Amelie Jacquin, Leslie Gauthier, Julie Masse, Luca Maffei, Antoine Lie, Veronique Nyberg, and Violaine Collas.
