Originally known as Manufacture Jourdan, the brand was founded by Jean Jourdan in the Capuchin convent located in the heart of Tarascon. The convent served as an Indian factory, producing exquisite textiles. However, financial difficulties prompted Jourdan to sell the convent to the city in 1821, leading him to relocate his operations to the Aiminy hotel. It was there that he established a factory dedicated to the printing of handkerchiefs in St Etienne du Grès.

Throughout its illustrious history, Souleiado has experienced both triumphant and challenging times. However, by the end of the 20th century, the brand had unfortunately fallen into decline. Determined to revive its former glory, the renowned Provence-based entrepreneurs, Daniel and Stéphane Richard, took over Souleiado in April 2009. It was within the confines of the Tarascon hotel, surrounded by a remarkable 360-year-old heritage that includes a vast assortment of fabric archives and countless drawings, that the new team breathed new life into the brand. With a fervent passion for preserving the cherished traditions of Provence, they embarked on an exciting journey akin to a treasure hunt in order to revitalize Souleiado. Their efforts were rewarded, as the brand once again basked in the warmth of the sun, metaphorically speaking. Indeed, the return of Souleiado heralded a new era for the brand.
