Sarah’s journey into the world of perfumery began in the late 1980s when she was a freshman at Emerson College, studying theater. It was during this time that she serendipitously discovered Essence, an offbeat, apothecary-style perfumery on Boston’s renowned Newbury Street. Essence specialized in creating custom fragrances tailored to its clients. Driven by her innate talent for perfumery and the belief that fragrance serves as a vehicle for self-expression, Sarah would spend hours working closely with individual clients, designing their perfect scent. This process, known as The Fragrance Journey, eventually became the cornerstone of her business, now commanding prices upwards of $1000 for a personalized perfume.
After spending four years honing her craft at Essence, Sarah, with the support of her family, acquired the store, enabling her to refine her skills and establish herself as an accomplished and imaginative perfumer. In 1994, she sold her share and relocated to Los Angeles, where she founded Creative Scentualization, the precursor to her current venture, Sarah Horowitz Parfums. Armed with her fragrance organ, a collection of over 100 fragrance oils housed in a wooden case, Sarah embarked on Fragrance Journeys, immersing herself in the beaches of Malibu and Los Angeles, working closely with clients to create bespoke fragrances. It wasn’t long before Sarah amassed a devoted following among discerning women from diverse professional backgrounds.
Sarah’s intuitive and non-formulaic approach to fragrance development has made her highly sought after by individuals as well as emerging and niche brands. Sarah Horowitz Parfums collaborates with these brands to create statement-making perfumes and one-of-a-kind home fragrances. The impressive fragrance base of Sarah Horowitz Parfums currently consists of 52 distinctive perfumes, with the earliest edition dating back to 1997 and the most recent release in 2019. Sarah Horowitz and Marlene Stang are the talented perfumers who have contributed to the creation of these exquisite fragrances.
