Rochas originated as a distinguished French fashion house, established by Marcel Rochas in 1925. For nearly three decades, from 1925 to 1953, Marcel Rochas showcased pioneering clothing designs that harmonized contemporary visions with time-honored feminine silhouettes. Recognizing the evolving requirements of women in the early to mid-20th century, Rochas revolutionized fashion with innovations such as the introduction of 2/3-length coats and skirts featuring pockets. Additionally, Rochas introduced the iconic “mermaid” dress, which continues to inspire modern women’s attire today. Expanding its repertoire, Rochas ventured into the world of fragrances, debuting a trio of perfumes—Avenue Matignon, Air Jeune, and Audace—in 1934. Although the perfumes were temporarily discontinued during World War II, the enduringly popular classic Femme fragrance was launched in 1943, cementing its status as a perennial best-seller. Rochas ingeniously implemented cross-selling strategies, successfully marketing lipstick and stockings as complementary accessories to the Femme fragrance. The company unveiled its inaugural men’s fragrance, Moustache, in 1949. Rocas’ fragrance and cosmetics division prospered significantly, ultimately leading to the closure of its haute couture division in 1953, following Marcel Rochas’ demise in 1955. Helene Rochas, Marcel’s young widow, assumed leadership of the company at the tender age of 30, transforming Rochas into a multi-million-dollar enterprise before eventually selling it in 1971. The company subsequently underwent multiple ownership changes throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Notably, Helene Rochas returned as a consultant from 1984 to 1989. Procter & Gamble acquired Rochas in 2003 and subsequently resurrected the fashion division, appointing Olivier Theyskens as its director from 2003 to 2006. After a two-year hiatus, the fashion division relaunched in 2008, spearheaded by its current creative director, Marco Zanini. While Rochas continues to prioritize fragrances, it boasts a dedicated in-house perfumer, Jean-Michel Duriez, since 2008. The esteemed designer Rochas boasts an extensive repertoire of 77 perfumes within our fragrance base. As an established perfume house steeped in history, Rochas’ earliest creation harkens back to 1944, with the most recent addition being introduced in 2023. Collaborating with renowned perfumers such as Jacques Cavallier, Marcel Rochas, Jean-Claude Ellena, Edmond Roudnitska, Michel Almairac, Amandine Clerc-Marie, Nicolas Mamounas, Roger Pellegrino, Jean-Michel Duriez, Anne Flipo, Christopher Sheldrake, Alberto Morillas, Quest, Olivier Cresp, Paul Guerlain, Bruno Jovanovic, Guy Robert, Natalie Gracia-Cetto, Sonia Constant, Shyamala Maisondieu, Nadege le Garlantezec, Thérèse Roudnitska, Theresa Roudnitska, and Maurice Roucel, Rochas continues to captivate fragrance enthusiasts worldwide.
