Rocco Barocco, an esteemed Italian fashion designer born in Naples, Italy in 1944, is widely recognized for his mastery in the world of fashion. Formerly known as Gennaro Muscariello, he legally changed his name to Rocco Barocco after achieving remarkable success in the industry.
Originally hailing from Ischia, an island near Naples, Barocco moved to Rome in 1962 to pursue his studies in fine arts at the Accademia delle Belle Arti. He embarked on his fashion journey by acquiring a position at the atelier of Monsieur Giles, where he collaborated with renowned figures such as Patrick de Barentzen and Giles. This influential period served as a pivotal moment for Barocco in the 1960s. In fact, it was during this time that he established a fruitful partnership with Giles, resulting in a company that endured for over a decade.
In 1974, Barocco’s illustrious career reached new heights when he inaugurated his very own atelier in Rome. The establishment swiftly gained recognition and admiration for its avant-garde style, captivating jet setters and garnering their unwavering support. Following his triumph in haute couture collections, Barocco unveiled his debut prêt-à-porter collection in 1979, solidifying his formidable presence in the fashion industry. Throughout the 1980s, he continued to expand his repertoire, diversifying his offerings by introducing secondary lines such as Fashion and RB. These lines featured an array of men’s suits, oversized garments, swimwear, shirts, leather accessories, gloves, umbrellas, and perfumes.
One of Barocco’s distinctive signatures lies in his artful blend of black and white, as well as his creative incorporation of optical effects, such as stripes and spots, in his designs. He pays meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the impeccable craftsmanship and originality of each piece he creates. Gaining inspiration from the realms of creativity, glamour, and avant-garde expressions, Barocco consistently exceeds expectations, fashioning the extraordinary out of the ordinary. He revels in employing vibrant, asymmetrical lines and prints, often favoring luxurious fabrics such as satin and cashmere.
