Roberto Greco is a horticulturist turned visual communication and photography student, who has found a unique way to combine his passion for the visual arts with his love for scents. In 2011, he unveiled his first series, “After still life,” where he skillfully composed baroque still life scenes using deceased animals such as rats, parakeets, aquarium fish, and flies. However, he soon realized that there was something lacking in these compositions.
Driven by his desire to enhance his work, Greco decided to incorporate smells into his artistic creations. In 2014, he introduced his second series, “Morbidezza,” which featured an animal herbarium set against simple color backgrounds. During exhibitions, he would diffuse various scents into the air, ranging from fragrances, essential oils, and scented candles to buckets of manure. By doing so, he aimed to immerse spectators in a multisensory experience that combined both visual and olfactory elements.
Greco’s artistic journey reached a turning point in 2017 with the creation of his latest series, “Œillères.” For this project, he collaborated with Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, the founder and perfumer behind Parfum d’Empire. Corticchiato, a doctor of chemistry specializing in perfume plants, is renowned for his ability to push the boundaries of perfumery through his unique compositions that blend the sensual and the botanical.
With “Œillères,” Greco captures the human condition metaphorically through his photographs of flowers. By suspending the moment of decay, he magnifies the often-overlooked moment of decline. In a world that seems focused on smoothness and thinness, the bodies depicted in his images echo the fragility and delicacy of flora. In his work, faces are shrouded, drawing attention to the corporeal essence and the flesh.
“Œillères” comprises thirty-one captivating images that are accompanied by a bespoke scent called “L’Objet Parfumant.” Under Greco’s artistic direction, this perfume was created by the talented Parisian nose, Marc-Antoine Corticchiato. The collaboration between the two artists took two years of meticulous work to achieve the desired effect – an unconventional floral fragrance that challenges the typical notions associated with flowers.
Roberto Greco has made a name for himself in the fragrance industry with his unique approach to perfumery. Collaborating with perfumers Marc-Antoine Corticchiato and Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Greco has introduced two fragrances under his eponymous brand. With the earliest edition launched in 2017 and the latest in 2020, Roberto Greco fragrances are known for their artistic expression and unconventional olfactory compositions.
