Since the early 1600s, the Rancé family has been renowned for their production of perfumed gloves, catering specifically to the French aristocracy in Grasse, France.
It was in 1795 that François Rancé dedicated himself entirely to the art of perfumery. Driven by his innovative spirit, he crafted exquisitely refined and contemporary fragrances that caught the attention of none other than Napoleon. Consequently, he earned the esteemed title of the Emperor’s preferred perfumer, creating illustrious scents such as “Le Vainqueur,” “Triomphe,” and “L’Eau de Austerliz.”
One notable creation was “l’Impératrice,” a fragrance crafted in honor of Josephine Bonaparte, which François presented to the Empress in a meticulously crafted Sevres porcelain box. The Rancé archives to this day hold the final existing example of this exceptional porcelain objet d’art.
The Rancé legacy spans several generations, with Alexandre Rancé relocating to Milan towards the end of the 1800s. Today, the family’s business is led by his granddaughter, Jeanne Sandra Rancé, alongside her son, Jean Maurice Alexandre Rancé.
Under the brand Rance 1795, the family offers an extensive collection of 38 perfumes. The range includes fragrances developed in collaboration with esteemed perfumers such as Jeanne Sandra Rancé, Maurizio Cerizza, Christian Carbonnel, Giovanni Rancé, Chris Maurice, and Luca Maffei. The earliest edition dates back to 2005, while the most recent introduction debuted in 2019.
