Quiksilver

Quiksilver is a renowned company specializing in surf wear and board sports equipment. Its headquarters are located in Huntington Beach, California, USA. The company was established in 1969 by two enterprising Australian surfers, Alan Green and John Law. During the early 1970s, Green, who was based in Torquay, Victoria, Australia, designed the iconic Quiksilver logo, featuring a cresting wave and snowcapped mountain. This design was inspired by the famous woodcut by Japanese artist Hokusai titled “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.”

Quiksilver initially set out to create the finest shorts for surfers. In 1976, Robert B. McKnight and Jeffrey Hakman, two American surfers, secured the licensing rights for Quiksilver, which was then a relatively young company based in Torquay, Australia. Hakman’s participation in a surfing competition in Australia that same year marked the beginning of McKnight and Hakman’s successful venture with the Quiksilver brand. It was also during this period that the company introduced its first line of apparel.

Throughout the 1980s, Quiksilver gained considerable recognition for its range of swimsuits, boardshorts, surfing clothing, and accessories. In the following decade, the brand expanded its offerings to include other board wear and began distributing its products in department stores, a practice that reached its peak in the 1990s. In 1990, Quiksilver launched Roxy, a brand catering to young women. Today, Quiksilver, Inc. continues to produce and distribute casual sportswear, beachwear, and snowboard wear. The company prides itself on setting fashion trends for surfers and operates under various labels, including Quiksilver, Roxy, Private Surf, Que, and Raisin. Quiksilver maintains offices in several key locations, including Europe, Australia, and America.

In 2004, Quiksilver established The Quiksilver Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at benefiting and enhancing the quality of life for boardriding communities worldwide. The foundation focuses on supporting projects related to the environment, education, health, and youth. With its headquarters in Huntington Beach, California, the Quiksilver Foundation collaborates with the company’s global offices in Asia, Australia, Europe, and beyond.

In 2008, Quiksilver expanded its offerings to include a fragrance for men, developed under the license of Inter Parfums. Despite being a relatively new fragrance brand, Quiksilver has made a mark in the industry. The designer Quiksilver currently has one perfume listed in our fragrance encyclopedia, released in 2008. Perfumers Antoine Lie and Antoine Maisondieu have contributed their expertise to the development of Quiksilver fragrances.
