Panouge is a renowned perfumery house that was founded by Maurice Moyse in 1948 under the name “Parfums Lavarenne-Paris.” Originally focused on the development and trade of essential oils, the company gradually expanded its repertoire to encompass fragrances, perfumes, and colognes over the course of three decades. In 1984, the company underwent a name change, rebranding as Panouge, which stands for “Parfums Nouvelle Generation” or “New Generation Perfumes.” This rebranding represented a shift for Panouge as it positioned itself as a House of Perfume, offering design-oriented lines such as Business Man, Unless, and Eau d’Espace.
In 1995, Panouge underwent a change in management and embarked on a new direction, specializing in conceptual and niche fragrances. The goal was to imbue each fragrance line with a unique story, concept, and identity. The first designer to collaborate with Panouge on fragrance development was Japanese designer Masaki Matsushima. The partnership was a success, and it laid the foundation for future collaborations.
In 2002, Panouge acquired the Isabey line and introduced Gardénia as a limited edition fragrance. The fragrance quickly sold out and was subsequently replaced by the current Eau de Parfum line. This success spurred further ambitions for Panouge, leading to the launch of Bleu de Chine in 2009. This fragrance marked an important milestone in the company’s journey, as it aimed to build upon the rich heritage of Panouge’s prestigious line dating back to 1924. The same period also saw the development of the conceptual brand Masakï-Paris, which drew inspiration from Japanese minimalism, cutting-edge design, and French elegance and craftsmanship.
In 2009, Panouge collaborated with Parisian jeweler Poiray to create a limited edition range of extract perfumes, with the aim of crafting olfactory jewels. Additionally, Panouge has added historical and celebrated brands such as Jacques Fath and Iris Gris to its portfolio. Currently, the fragrance house boasts a collection of 43 perfumes in its fragrance base. The earliest edition was created in 1984, while the most recent addition hails from 2021. These fragrances have been created in collaboration with esteemed perfumers such as Jean Jacques, Patrice Revillard, Marie Schnirer, Francis Kurkdjian, and Raphael Haury.
