OSM, short for Olfactory Sense Memory, emerged from the concept of sharing our personal memories through scent in a artistic manner. It is widely recognized that our brains possess a profound connection to both scent and memory. When a memory is stored, our brains establish a network of interconnected neurons. The strength of the memory is determined by the number of connections established between these neurons, forming a complex lattice-like structure. Similarly, in the realm of perfumery, molecules intertwine and combine to form a fragrance that transcends its individual components. In essence, a perfume itself can be viewed as a memory waiting to be evoked within the wearer’s mind.
At OSM, we strive to amplify this association between fragrance and memory on a global scale. Our ambition is to involve consumers in the creation of fragrances inspired by their own memories, in addition to developing our own exclusive scents. Our bottle labels are carefully crafted collages, depicting memories that embody the composition of each fragrance within. Similar to an impressionist painting, a distant glance reveals an overall impression, while a closer examination unveils the intricate details and strokes that construct the whole. The numerical labeling of our scents signifies the year or age of the scent memory encapsulated within each bottle. Furthermore, our bottle design utilizes a grey color to symbolize the grey matter, or the brain, where memories are formed and preserved.
Conscious of our environmental impact, we prioritize sustainability in our fragrances and strive for minimalist packaging. Additionally, we are committed to giving back to the Earth. In line with this commitment, OSM has partnered with 1% For the Planet, an organization dedicated to fostering a global alliance of environmentally conscious businesses. As part of our contribution, 1% of all OSM’s sales are donated to the organization’s mission of promoting a healthier planet.
OSM is a newly established fragrance brand, with our designer OSM introducing four perfumes to our fragrance line in 2018. The olfactory mastermind behind these scents is Kyle Mott-Kannenberg.
