Oscar de la Renta, a renowned fashion designer, was born in the Dominican Republic in 1932. In 1971, Oscar de la Renta became a United States citizen, solidifying his connection to his adopted home. His career continued to flourish throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1993, while still maintaining his own fashion brand, Oscar accepted the esteemed role of head couturier at Balmain, making him the first American to design for a French couture house. His tenure at Balmain spanned until 2002.

Upon his return to the United States, the Oscar de la Renta brand expanded to encompass accessories, home furnishings, and a retail division that extended its presence globally. Oscar de la Renta’s designs have graced some of the most prominent and powerful women of the late 20th century, including three former First Ladies. In 1977, he introduced his first fragrance, Oscar for women, which has remained a perennial best-seller worldwide. Since then, a collection of fragrances for both men and women has been developed under the Oscar de la Renta brand, in collaboration with the esteemed perfumers Jacques Cavallier, Alberto Morillas, Jean-Marc Chaillan, Carlos Benaim, Ann Gottlieb, Jean-Louis Sieuzac, Calice Becker, Sonia Constant, Nathalie Feisthauer, Beatrice Piquet, Ilias Ermenidis, Frank Voelkl, Harry Fremont, Claude Dir, Clement Gavarry, Irina Burlakova, Pascal Gaurin, Bruno Jovanovic, Sophia Grojsman, and Nicholas Calderone.
