Niki de Saint Phalle, originally known as Catherine-Marie-Agnès-Brandon Fal de Saint Phalle (1930-2002), was a highly accomplished French artist, sculptor, painter, and filmmaker. Throughout her illustrious career, she mastered several artistic mediums and developed her unique style.

In her earlier years, Niki de Saint Phalle worked as a fashion model, gracing the covers of prestigious magazines such as Life Magazine in September 1949 and French Vogue in November 1952. It was during this time that she began her exploration of painting and experimented with various styles. Her exposure to different art forms in France, the United States, Spain, and Paris greatly influenced her artistic journey. Of particular significance was her fascination with the work of Antonio Gaudí and his “Park Güell” in Barcelona, which inspired her to create her own garden artwork known as the “Giardino dei Tarocchi.”

In 1956, Niki de Saint Phalle held her first art exhibition in Switzerland, showcasing her naïve style paintings. However, it was her groundbreaking “Shooting paintings” in 1961 that propelled her to global fame. She inventively used a .22 caliber rifle to create a completely new painting style. Subsequently, during her “Nanas” period, she delved into sculpture to explore the various roles of women in society.

In the early 1980s, Niki de Saint Phalle decided to venture into yet another artistic realm – perfumery. Challenged to infuse her artistic sensibilities and unique style into a fragrance, she created a perfume that bore her name. This eponymous fragrance was dedicated to sophisticated and bold women, echoing Niki’s own spirit. The fragrance, according to Niki, embodied pure eroticism and served as a sensual weapon to empower women.
