Nautica is an esteemed American apparel and furnishings label that was founded by renowned designer David Chu in 1983. Initially focused on menswear, the brand has since expanded to include women’s wear, children’s clothing, accessories, home goods, and furniture, establishing itself as a prominent American lifestyle brand that encapsulates the spirit of the adventurous and sporting American lifestyle.
The name “Nautica” derives from the Latin word Nauticus, meaning “ship,” which perfectly aligns with the brand’s principles. The company’s iconic logo features a billowing spinnaker, a lightweight sail designed primarily for sailing off the wind from a reaching course to a downwind. Many of Nautica’s products boast a nautical or outdoorsy motif, incorporating stripes, oceanic names, and a predominant use of the color blue. The brand’s advertising campaigns often take place on boats, ships, or by the seaside, further enhancing its association with the maritime world.
In 1984, Nautica was acquired by the New York apparel company State-O-Main, which subsequently adopted the Nautica name as its corporate identity. Then, in 2003, the renowned American clothing corporation VF Corporation, specializing in branded apparel, purchased Nautica.
Nautica has partnered with Coty to offer an exquisite range of fragrances for both men and women. The debut fragrance, Nautica cologne for men, was introduced in 1992. Many of these fragrances exhibit a captivating blue color scheme in their packaging, adorned with the distinctive spinnaker logo, and feature aquatic-themed names and aromas. With an impressive collection of 25 perfumes in our fragrance base, Nautica has collaborated with esteemed perfumers such as Harry Fremont, Joachim Correl, Maurice Roucel, Patricia Bilodeau, and Michel Mane.
