Founded in 1973 in Paris, France, by Patrick and Gerard Pariente, NafNaf established itself as a prominent player in the fashion industry by offering affordable ready-to-wear collections. The brand’s distinctive 1980s collections, characterized by their vibrant colors and unpretentious designs, became synonymous with the NafNaf name.
Initially targeting a youthful demographic aged between 18 and 25, NafNaf quickly gained popularity. Before the rise of online retail, their clothes were sold in over 100 boutiques across France, as well as various international outlets. The brand’s eccentric and eclectic collections resonated with shoppers, with even notable figures such as Princess Stephanie of Monaco being spotted wearing a NafNaf blouse.
While NafNaf faced challenges in the mid-1990s as other chain stores like Zara, H&M, Gap, and Benetton dominated the high streets, the company strategized by implementing a new business plan, revamping their stores, and introducing modern designs. Through these efforts, NafNaf successfully reclaimed its former glory.
Today, NafNaf offers a comprehensive range of women’s wear, including underwear, sunglasses, bags, accessories, and perfumes. In 1991, the brand launched its first fragrance, Une Touche de NafNaf, an oriental-floral scent that captivated young girls and women alike. Although this iconic fragrance has since been discontinued, it continues to hold a special place in the hearts of those who were teenagers or young adults when it first debuted.
Following the success of Une Touche de NafNaf, NafNaf introduced another fragrance called Graffiti Vanilla. This floral-fruity scent, featuring notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, pink grapefruit, blackcurrant, lily-of-the-valley, red peony, violet, cashmere wood, vanilla, and musk, achieved moderate commercial success but fell short of its predecessor.
In 2001, as part of NafNaf’s revitalization efforts, renowned perfumers Jean-Pierre Bethouart and Annick Menardo were enlisted to concoct a new fragrance aptly named Expression. This fresh, fruity, joyful, and sunny scent blends bergamot, strawberry leaf, pineapple, freesia, violet, peony, tonka, musk, vanilla, and vetiver.
In 2007, star perfumer Bernard Ellena created a charming fragrance simply called NafNaf. With notes of mango, apple, bergamot, orchid, orris root, rose, patchouli, musk, white woods, raspberry, and vanilla, this captivating scent epitomizes the brand’s appeal.
Subsequent fragrance releases included NafNaf Too… in 2008, which boasts intense floral and fruity notes with a focus on the lusciousness of mangoes, and Fashion Instinct in 2009, a sweet and fruity scent.
The 2011 edition, Fairy Juice, is a floral-fruity fragrance composed of black currant, white peach, mandarin, rhubarb, white flowers, tonka beans, cedar, vanilla, and musk. Presently, NafNaf offers a diverse range of 15 perfumes in its fragrance base. Collaborating with esteemed perfumers such as Jean-Pierre Bethouart, Annick Menardo, Carla Chabert, Bernard Ellena, Ilias Ermenidis, Philippe Romano, Alexis Dadier, Marine Ipert, and Alexandra Carlin, NafNaf continues to captivate fragrance enthusiasts with its unique creations.
