Masaki Matsushima, born in Nagoya in 1963, is a renowned Japanese fashion designer who established his own label after studying at the prestigious Bunka Fashion College. His remarkable talent caught the attention of Issey Miyake, one of his mentors in the fashion industry.

In 1992, Matsushima debuted his inaugural fashion collection, which showcased his unique ability to infuse Japanese traditions with contemporary flair. This distinctive approach continues to define his creations, positioning them as key pieces within the world of fashion.

In 2000, Matsushima ambitiously expanded his creative endeavors by venturing into the realm of fragrances. The following year, he unveiled his first perfume collection, which featured a range of fragrances all bearing the distinctive word “mat” within their names.

For women, the fragrance mat;pink offers a captivating floral-fruity composition. On the other hand, the men’s fragrance mat;blue boasts a refreshing citrus-aromatic blend, with notes of tea, juniper, bamboo, mint, bergamot, rose, lotus, and musk.

Since then, Matsushima has continuously released an array of fragrances that have captivated fragrance enthusiasts around the world. Noteworthy additions include Aqua Mat Homme, an oriental and woody composition infused with lime, grapefruit, bamboo juice, fig leaf, magnolia, cane sugar, bamboo, sandalwood, and musk, and Cherry, a floral fragrance featuring blackcurrant, blueberry, cassia, cherry blossom, raspberry, musk, sweet pea, watermelon, and lotus.

Another delightful creation is Fluo, which emanates a sunny, floral, and fruity scent composed of grapefruit, kumquat, passionfruit, lotus, peony, nectarine, and musk.

In 2005, the fragrance M by Masaki Matsushima was introduced, offering a unisex fragrance experience centered around notes of lychee, musk, iris, mandarin orange, and apricot. The aromatic M; Men fragrance followed in 2006, combining musk, nutmeg, lemon, grapefruit, tea, bamboo, rosemary, and vetiver.

M;0°С, inspired by a cold Scandinavian morning, showcases a unique combination of frozen apple sorbet, Chimayo cocktail encompassing apple juice, tequila, and ice cubes, citruses, bellflower, musky notes, and woody accords.

In 2010, Masaki Aqua Platinum was launched, boasting prominent woody accords and spicy notes, evident in its composition of grapefruit, yuzu, mint, iris, cashmere wood, virginia cedar, musk, cardamom, and pepper. That same year witnessed the unveiling of Masaki Art Masaki, a fragrance designed for women featuring floral notes and musk, and Masaki Shiro, a sheer white flower scent complemented by musky and woody base notes.

The feminine and romantic fragrance Masaki/Masaki was presented in 2007, harmoniously blending cedar, watermelon, red apple, rose, musk, raspberry, patchouli, magnolia, passionfruit, and lychee. Mat Chocolat, an oriental fragrance for women introduced in 2005, tantalizes the senses with dominant notes of blackcurrant, grapefruit, watermelon, rose, dark chocolate, cacao, sandalwood, coconut, and musk. The modern composition of mat; encompasses honeydew melon, bamboo, tea, blackcurrant, mint, mango, and magnolia.

The oriental and floral women’s fragrance mat; le rouge was launched in 2003, whilst the fragrance mat; male for men is based on suede, cedar, teak wood, lotus blossom, rose, melon, mint, bamboo, blackcurrant, grapefruit, tea, and cardamom. The unisex fragrance mat; metal, released in 2003, offers a floral combination of rose and violet.

The special edition mat; orange showcases a composition of apricot, passionfruit, blood orange, mandarin orange, musk, mango, watermelon, lotus, and bitter orange. In 2004, mat; very male was introduced, blending liquorice, aquatic notes, anise, woody notes, bamboo, cedar, patchouli, lotus, and bergamot. mat; yellow, released in 2003, is an aromatic fragrance with prominent peach and passionfruit notes. Mintea, a refreshing fragrance, delights the senses with its invigorating blend of tea, mint, citruses, juniper berries, bamboo, watermelon, and cucumber.

Suu for women, created in 2008, features a composition that combines grapefruit, tropical fruit, pear, star anise, lotus, musk, and cedar.

In total, Masaki Matsushima has developed an impressive collection of 43 perfumes to date. These fragrances were created in collaboration with renowned perfumers Jean Jacques and Jérôme di Marino.
