On June 6th, 2011, Marina Barcenilla unveiled The Perfume Garden, a charming artisan perfumery situated in the picturesque West Country. This venture was born out of Marina’s desire to reconnect with the timeless art of perfume-making. As the Founder and Perfumer, Marina envisioned herself fully immersed in every step of the process, from sourcing exquisite aromatic essences from around the globe to meticulously handcrafting fragrances in her personal perfume studio.

Originally offering a range of six perfumes along with an assortment of body oils, bath salts, and sugar scrubs, which were custom-blended upon request, Marina Barcenilla quickly gained recognition as a reputable “fragrance house” within the industry. In 2016, Marina achieved a significant milestone when her creation named India won the prestigious Fragrance Foundation (FiFi) Award for Best New Independent Fragrance. This accolade prompted Marina to embark on the next phase of her journey, relaunching as Marina Barcenilla Parfums. While the name may have changed, the brand’s core ethos remains unwavering — to craft the most exquisite fragrances utilizing the bounties of nature.

The year 2017 brought further acclaim for Marina Barcenilla Parfums. Patchouli Clouds Fragrance earned the esteemed Editor’s Choice Beauty Shortlist Award, while The Perfume Garden fragrance and Patchouli Clouds Bath & Body Oil both received NHM International Natural Beauty Awards. Additionally, Marina Barcenilla Parfums was honored with the Eluxe Award for Best Natural Perfume Brand. Notably, The Perfume Garden emerged as a finalist for the highly coveted FiFi Award of Perfume Extraordinaire at the 2017 UK Awards. Furthermore, both Black Osmanthus and The Perfume Garden were selected as finalists for Best New Independent Fragrance, with Marina claiming back-to-back victories in this category with Black Osmanthus.

Marina Barcenilla’s decision to employ nature-derived ingredients in her fragrances under the Marina Barcenilla Parfums banner stems from her adoration of the intricacies found within natural aromas. Hailing from Spain, Marina fondly recalls her fascination with the aromatic notes found in Herbissimo fragrances and her grandmother’s lavender water. It was from these enchanting experiences that her passion for natural ingredients flourished. Though she initially specialized in aromatherapy, Marina eagerly embraced the challenge of venturing into the realm of perfume-making. Transitioning from utilizing ingredients for their therapeutic properties to employing them as the building blocks of fragrance came effortlessly to her. Soon enough, Marina’s expertise spread through word of mouth, leading to the creation of bespoke fragrances for clients.
