Laura Biagiotti, often referred to as the “Queen of Cashmere,” is an accomplished Italian fashion designer. With a lineage deeply rooted in fashion, her mother owning a dressmaking shop and designing uniforms for Alitalia, it is no surprise that Biagiotti found her passion in this creative field.

After briefly studying archaeology at Rome University, Biagiotti decided to join her family’s business. However, in 1965, she embarked on her own venture, establishing a clothing company alongside her partner, Gianni Cigna, who would later become her husband. Initially, their company focused on producing and exporting clothing for various Italian fashion houses. It wasn’t until they secured a significant deal with Angela Tarlazzi that they began creating their own ready-to-wear collection.

In 1972, Biagiotti fulfilled her dream of designing her own line, marking the beginning of her influential career. One of her notable contributions to the fashion industry was popularizing cashmere, a luxurious fabric rarely seen before in this domain. From her first collection onwards, Biagiotti incorporated cashmere into her designs, captivating women with its softness, opulence, and comfortable fits. Among her iconic designs is the beloved “baby doll” dress, which has become a recurring motif in many of her collections.

Throughout her career, Laura Biagiotti has been honored with numerous fashion awards, solidifying her status as a revered designer. Her legacy also extends to the next generation, as her daughter, Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, joined the company and has been instrumental as Vice President since 2005.

In addition to her achievements in fashion, Biagiotti ventured into the world of fragrances. In 1982, she introduced her first fragrance, Fiori Bianchi. The mesmerizing marble column-like design of the 1988 release, Roma, propelled it to become the company’s best-selling fragrance. A men’s edition was later introduced in 1995. Today, Laura Biagiotti continues to collaborate with Procter & Gamble, offering a range of fragrances for both men and women.
