Lanvin, a renowned French fashion house, was established by the talented designer Jeanne-Marie Lanvin. Beginning her career as a milliner and dressmaker in Paris, Lanvin’s foray into the fashion industry started with the creation of exquisite clothing for her daughter, Marguerite. The exceptional quality and style of these pieces caught the attention of others, leading Lanvin to join the prestigious Syndicat de la Couture (“Union of Sewing”) in 1909. Gradually, Lanvin shifted her focus from children’s wear to women’s fashion.
Renowned for her elegant garments and coordinated mother-and-daughter outfits, Lanvin’s empire expanded to encompass various other ventures, including a dye factory, home decor, menswear, furs, and undergarments. Nevertheless, Lanvin’s most significant achievement came in 1924 when she introduced Lanvin Parfums SA. The brand’s debut fragrance, My Sin, was launched that same year. However, it was the remarkable success of Arpège, named after her daughter Marguerite’s arpeggios while practicing the piano, that truly propelled the brand to new heights. Introduced in 1927, Arpège remains an enduring classic and continues to be in production to this day.
Following Jeanne Lanvin’s passing in 1946, her daughter Marguerite assumed control of the company. Lanvin remained a family-operated business until 1989 when it was acquired by Harmonie S.A. Currently, the creative direction of the fashion house is entrusted to Elber Albaz. In terms of perfume production, Lanvin experienced sporadic releases beginning in the 1960s until L’Oreal obtained the license in the 1990s. At present, Inter Parfums holds the perfume license for Lanvin.
The illustrious designer Lanvin boasts an impressive catalog of fragrances, with a collection of 76 scents. Its history dates back to the inaugural fragrance created in 1924, with the latest addition being from 2023. Over the years, Lanvin has collaborated with esteemed perfumers such as Sophie Labbe, Shyamala Maisondieu, Andre Fraysse, Mackenzie Reilly, Nicolas Beaulieu, Anne Flipo, Fabrice Pellegrin, Marie Zede, Madame Zed, Alberto Morillas, Francois Robert, Lena Pierottie, Jacques Fraysse, Paul Vacher, Olivier Pescheux, Karine Dubreuil-Sereni, Sonia Constant, Domitille Michalon Bertier, Alexandra Carlin, Pierre-Constantin Guéros, Antoine Maisondieu, Christophe Raynaud, Nathalie Lorson, Francis Kurkdjian, and Honorine Blanc.
