Lancôme Paris is a prestigious French cosmetics company that was founded by Armand Petitjean in 1935. Petitjean, a former Coty employee, drew inspiration for the company’s name from the majestic ruins of Le Château de Lancosme. The brand’s iconic rose symbol is also a nod to the beautiful roses that surround the castle.
Initially established as a perfume company, Lancôme debuted five exquisite fragrances in time for the 1935 World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium. Over the years, the company expanded its offerings to include a wide range of cosmetics and skincare products designed for both men and women.
Today, Lancôme remains at the forefront of the industry, thanks to its captivating advertising campaigns featuring renowned models and celebrities, elegantly captured by esteemed fashion photographers. One of the most notable collaborations was with the talented actress, Isabella Rossellini, which lasted an impressive 14 years. In 2009, Lancôme began featuring Isabella’s daughter, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann, as part of their brand promotions. More recently, Lancôme enlisted the enchanting Emma Watson, famous for her role in “Harry Potter,” to represent their exquisite Tresor Midnight Rose fragrance.
Lancôme’s fragrance legacy dates back to its inception in 1935 when the company introduced its first collection of women’s scents, which included Tendre Nuit, Bocages, Conquete, Kypre, and Tropiques. A significant milestone came in 1964 when Lancôme joined the L’Oreal family. This partnership led to the creation of many beloved and timeless fragrances such as Climat, Magie Noire, and Tresor.
