Kenzo

Kenzo is a renowned Japanese fashion house that was established by the esteemed designer Kenzo Takada in 1970. With a background in fashion from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, Kenzo ventured from his hometown to Paris in 1964. Four years later, he launched his first Parisian boutique named Jungle Jap. Kenzo is widely recognized for introducing Japanese fashion to a global audience, and his distinctive designs flawlessly blend traditional Japanese elements with influences from nature and diverse cultures.

In 1987, Kenzo extended his creative vision into the world of fragrances by founding Kenzo Parfums. This move came as no surprise, as earlier evidence such as the perfume King Kong in 1978, aligned with the “Jungle Jap” concept, indicated the designer’s interest in the olfactory realm. In 1988, the division released its debut fragrance for women, initially named Kenzo for Women, and later renamed ça sent beau, meaning “it smells nice.” Since then, Kenzo Parfums has launched a series of remarkable fragrances for both men and women, including the groundbreaking Flower by Kenzo, which has become the brand’s flagship scent.

In 1993, Kenzo Parfums became a part of LVMH, a global luxury goods conglomerate. Kenzo Takada officially retired from the company in 1999, only to resurface as a designer specializing in home décor and furnishings. Currently, the fragrance line boasts an impressive collection of 155 perfumes. The editions range from the very first one created in 1978 to the most recent release in 2023.

The range of Kenzo fragrances has been brought to life through collaborations with esteemed perfumers, such as Sophie Labbe, JoAnne Bassett, Daphné Bugey, Maurice Roucel, Francoise Caron, Sophia Grojsman, Daniela (Roche) Andrier, Christine Nagel, Benoist Lapouza, Jean Claude Delville, Antoine Lie, Annick Menardo, Olivier Polge, Alberto Morillas, Marie Salamagne, Aurelien Guichard, Olivier Cresp, Louise Turner, Ane Ayo, Philippe Romano, Jean Jacques, Sylvie Fischer, Christian Dussoulier, Amandine Clerc-Marie, Fabrice Pellegrin, Dora Baghriche, Alexandra Monet, Natalie Gracia-Cetto, Olivier Pescheux, Quentin Bisch, Dominique Ropion, Francois Demachy, Christian Mathieu, Christophe Raynaud, Nelly Hachem-Ruiz, Delphine Lebeau, Karine Dubreuil-Sereni, Jean-Christophe Hérault, Jérôme di Marino, Francis Kurkdjian, Maïa Lernout, Sonia Constant, Alexandra Kosinski, Ilias Ermenidis, and Jacques Cavallier.
