Jo Loves is the latest venture of renowned UK-based fragrance designer, Jo Malone. With a background in floristry, Jo’s deep fascination with fragrances originated during her childhood when she began experimenting with creating her own scents using flowers from her family’s garden and grated soap. Her entrepreneurial journey began as a florist during the day and an evening beautician specializing in facials. It was her creation of the Nutmeg and Ginger bath oil as a gesture of gratitude for her clients that sparked an overwhelming demand for reorders and propelled her business forward.
In 1994, Jo Malone opened her first boutique in London, offering an array of fragrances, skincare products, and home scents. As an early proponent of fragrance layering, Jo introduced unisex scents that could be worn individually or combined with other fragrances from her collection. This allowed customers to effortlessly concoct their own custom scents, giving them the freedom to explore various olfactory experiences. The undeniable success of Jo Malone soon attracted the attention of industry titan, Estee Lauder Companies, which acquired the Jo Malone brand in 1999. Jo continued to contribute her expertise as the chairwoman and creative director of the company until 2006. Under the stewardship of Estee Lauder Companies, the Jo Malone brand expanded its global presence, reaching customers in multiple countries.
In November 2011, Jo Malone announced her triumphant return to the fragrance industry with the launch of a new brand, Jo Loves, which is currently available for purchase in the UK. During a brief period of retirement, Jo’s exploration of cooking, food, and flavors reignited her passion for fragrance creation. Recognizing the synergies between the culinary and olfactory arts, Jo Loves was born to capture the inspirations derived from Jo’s life experiences, including ingredients, people, and precious moments in time. The brand made its debut with four distinct fragrances in November 2011: Pomelo, Green Orange & Coriander, Orange Tulle, and Gardenia. Setting itself apart from Jo Malone’s previous fragrance line, Jo Loves can be easily identified by its vibrant red packaging adorned with a minimalist white logo set against a black background.
Under Jo’s expert guidance, the brand has since expanded its olfactory offerings, boasting a fragrance base of 19 unique perfumes. At Jo Loves, each scent is meticulously crafted to evoke a distinct sensory experience. Jo Malone herself serves as the nose behind all the fragrances, showcasing her unparalleled skill and artistry. With its unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, Jo Loves continues to carve a prominent place in the fragrance industry, leaving its mark as a fresh and exciting new fragrance brand. The brand’s portfolio spans from its inaugural creation in 2011 to its most recent addition in 2021, reflecting its dedication to continuous evolution and captivating contemporary sensibilities.
