Jean Couturier had a long and illustrious career in the perfumery business. In the 1960s, he collaborated with Yves Saint Laurent and played a pivotal role in the establishment of YSL Parfums. Notably, he contributed to the successful launches of Rive Gauche and Y, and also created the iconic fragrance Azzaro.
Born into a lineage of perfumers, Jean Couturier’s wife, Jacqueline “Jacky” Couturier, followed in her family’s footsteps and became a perfumer in Grasse. Together, they founded their own perfumery house in 1972. During this time, Jacqueline crafted the renowned perfume Coriandre, which was launched in 1973.
Reflecting on the creation of Coriandre, Jacqueline “Jacky” Couturier shared, “In Coriandre, I sought to evoke the olfactive emotions of my youth: the subtle and delicate scent of my mother, along with the captivating aromas of the countryside in Grasse.”
Coriandre experienced a relaunch and reformulation in 1993. Jean Couturier’s contributions to the fragrance industry are extensive, as evidenced by the 13 perfumes bearing his name in our fragrance base. The earliest edition dates back to 1973, while the most recent was introduced in 2019.
Throughout his career, Jean Couturier collaborated with esteemed perfumers such as Jacqueline Couturier, Jean-Louis Sieuzac, Gerard Pelpel, Jean Claude Delville, and Raymond Chaillan, resulting in a diverse and impressive collection of fragrances.
