Sophie Hardeman graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2015, where she pursued a fashion degree driven by her fascination with its captivating and adaptable visual language. Fashion serves as a means for Hardeman to explore and reflect upon the world around her. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, she incorporates symbolic elements that can be found in the routines of ordinary people, whether it be observing fellow passengers on a bus or browsing through a bustling market.

Denim holds significant meaning in the Hardeman Language as a recognizable trademark. Hardeman describes her brand as “gender-free,” rather than simply gender neutral. This ideology is reflected in the inclusive size range available, ranging from XXS to XXL, allowing individuals to embrace whatever makes them feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. Breaking away from traditional conventions, Hardeman utilizes denim – a universally beloved fabric – and transforms it into deconstructed, gender fluid garments that defy the norms typically associated with denim, such as the iconic 501s.

HARDEMAN, the Dutch designer, is on a mission to challenge the American denim history, intertwining elements of drag bar presentations and cowboy-inspired films.
