Giorgio Armani, the renowned Italian fashion designer, is widely recognized for his exceptional contribution to menswear. His journey in the fashion industry began as a designer of shop-windows in a prominent department store, gradually progressing to become a menswear buyer. After acquiring valuable experience, Armani worked as a designer for Nino Cerutti from 1960 to 1972. Subsequently, he ventured into independent design work for various fashion houses before establishing his own eponymous brand.
In 1975, Armani unveiled his first remarkable collection of men’s clothing, which was swiftly followed by a line for women in the same year. One of the pivotal moments catapulting Armani into the spotlight was the collaboration with the critically acclaimed movie “American Gigolo,” where Richard Gere’s character showcased the sophistication of Armani’s designs. This collaboration marked the beginning of numerous future partnerships with the film industry. Over the late 1970s and early 1980s, the brand experienced considerable growth, diversifying its offerings across various price points, including collections, jeans, undergarments, and accessories. Through a partnership with L’Oreal, Armani expanded further into the realm of fragrances and beauty products.
In 1982, Giorgio Armani Beauty introduced the first Armani fragrance for women, followed by an equally captivating fragrance for men in 1984. These two scents formed the foundation for a long line of successful fragrances that have endured into the 21st century. To date, the designer has created an impressive portfolio of 221 perfumes, spanning from the inaugural edition in 1981 to the latest addition released in 2023.
