Geicher

Greetings, Perfume Enthusiast! My name is Itua, but for the purpose of this perfume journey, you can call me JSAQ (pronounced jay-sak). I am the Founder and creative force behind the Geicher brand, which includes Gods of Our Fathers, Geicher, and the upcoming Le Prince Qui Dort. My path in the world of perfumery has been a fascinating one.

Like many of you, I grew up surrounded by the allure of classic fragrances such as Chanel No. 5, Kouros, Obsession by Calvin Klein, and various niche scents. As a child, I would stand in awe of my parents’ impressive fragrance collections, each bottle vying for the coveted title of “scent supreme” on their carefully curated dressers. Although I deeply appreciated these olfactory works of art, I did not fully understand their complexities as products. Nonetheless, I held great respect for the brands that brought such olfactive decadence and simplicity into our lives.

My personal exploration of the perfume world began with my first significant purchase, A*men by Thierry Mugler. This marked the start of a transformative journey. During a visit to Harrods in London, I had a life-changing encounter with “Vetiver Tonka” by Hermes. In that moment, my passion for fragrances soared to new heights. I immersed myself in research, acquiring as many scents as my budget allowed. I delved into studying their notes, performance, and shared my newfound knowledge with anyone who would lend an ear.

Quickly, I became the go-to person for fragrance advice, helping others make a personal statement with their scent choices or find the perfect perfume to gift a loved one. Throughout this time, I harbored a dream of one day launching my very own line. As early as 2005, I started envisioning the ideal design for my perfume bottles.

In 2009, while attending London Fashion Week, I crossed paths with Alexandra Soveral, a renowned cosmetic designer and aromatherapist. She was hosting a perfume creation competition, and after multiple attempts to decline, I eventually gave in to her persistent invitation. Presented with thirty ingredients, I followed my intuition and composed a scent that I truly loved. Little did I know that this creation would go on to win the competition, as announced in the newspapers. This victory solidified my conviction to establish my own brand someday.

Fast-forward to 2012, I temporarily set aside my perfume aspirations and ventured into the realm of strategy consulting. Working with clients in the FMCG and luxury industries, I became impassioned about shaping the future of luxury retail as the concept of “omni-channel” gained traction. In pursuit of this vision, I conceived a digital landscape featuring its own currency, where luxury retailers, entertainers, and businesses could come together, build communities, sell products, and accrue digital real estate. Eliminating biases that persist in physical transactions, especially concerning people of color in luxury retail, became a prime focus. Though lacking a tech or coding background, I believed a trip to San Francisco would connect me with the right minds to bring this concept to life. Investing substantial personal finances and two years of effort, I remained hopeful. However, with no tangible progress, I made the challenging decision to shelve the project.

The intriguing part of this journey arises here. The foundations of my digital landscape were structured around eight island-cities, each representing distinct personalities shaped by existing luxury brands, consumer profiles, enchanting real-world destinations, age demographics, and music preferences. These island-cities bore the names Borgan Bay, Bosch, Grand-Olang, Grand-Peru, Madabi, Manakai, Najjar, and Pacific-Assai.

In 2020, amidst the pandemic, I redirected my focus towards building a fragrance brand and business. It struck me that the personality concepts and extensive research behind my digital landscape could be seamlessly transformed into the foundation for eight fragrances that would define the Geicher brand. Fascinatingly, my acute sinus condition, which impairs my sense of smell, informed the development process. Relying heavily on written stories, personality profiles, and music, I crafted fragrance formulations that encapsulate the essence of my vision. Each scent carries its unique soundtrack, a playlist of songs that collectively convey the intricacy of emotions I experienced throughout the creative journey. Additionally, I consistently immersed myself in an album from start to finish during the essence-blending phase. The result? Olfactory magic captured within each bottle, ready to be shared with the world.

As for the name Geicher, it was conceived in 2006 during a visionary discussion with my close friend Frederik Ferrier. We pondered what future success would look like and the names we would be recognized by. While Geicher carries meaningful significance, it lacks a direct English translation.

Please note that Designer Geicher offers four distinct perfumes in our fragrance encyclopedia. The trademarks and logos presented belong to their respective companies and manufacturers, utilized solely for identification purposes.
