The story of Fragrances of Ireland began in 1983 when Brian Cox and Donald Pratt, the founder of Avoca Handweavers, conceived the idea of establishing an Irish perfume company. Their inaugural fragrance, “Innisfree,” named after Yeats’ poem “The Lake Isle of Innisfree,” enjoyed resounding success in both Ireland and the United States, prompting the subsequent introduction of the Patrick Cologne for Men A line and a range of Irish soaps and toiletries. In 1987, David Cox, Brian’s son, joined the company to contribute his expertise in presentations and perfume supply.

As their perfume offerings expanded and business soared, Fragrances of Ireland relocated to a new facility, transforming an old dairy barn that once belonged to the Jameson Whiskey family estate in Kilmacanogue. To this day, their address remains known as “Jameson’s Corner.” Notably, the company enlisted the talents of master perfumer Arthur Burnham, who had previously trained in Grasse alongside esteemed perfumers like Jacques Polge, to create their signature perfume, Inis. This scent played a pivotal role in the company’s international success within the global market.

Over the course of approximately 10 years, Fragrances of Ireland has sold more than 1 million bottles of their highly acclaimed cologne, Inis, for both men and women. Environmental consciousness lies at the core of the company’s values, as evidenced by Inis’ steadfast sponsorship of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, a dedicated organization focused on the conservation and protection of these magnificent creatures. Indeed, the message on each Inis carton reminds consumers that no one is an island – we are all interconnected.
