Floris is a renowned perfumery house based in London, with an impressive history spanning back to 1730. The company remains under the stewardship of the descendants of its founders, Juan Famenius Floris and Elizabeth. Originally established at their location on 89 Jermyn Street, Floris initially focused on selling grooming and shaving products alongside their perfumes. Their exceptional quality and craftsmanship earned them a Royal Warrant in 1820, appointed as the official “Smooth Pointed Comb Maker” to King George IV.
Over the years, Floris has had the privilege of serving a distinguished clientele, including royalty, historical figures, and celebrities. Notable patrons such as Florence Nightingale, Winston Churchill, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and Marilyn Monroe have all been captivated by Floris’ exceptional fragrances. In 1878, Mary Anne (Floris) Bodenham and her husband James assumed leadership of the business, taking over from Mary Anne’s brother, Joseph Floris. The Bodenham and Floris family descendants carry on the company’s legacy to this day.
While production and sales at the original 89 Jermyn Street location continued until 1989, Floris expanded its operations with the opening of a factory in Devon. Nevertheless, the Jermyn Street establishment has remained the company’s headquarters and flagship store, serving as a testament to Floris’ historical roots.
Today, Floris boasts an extensive collection of fragrances that cater to various preferences. Their offerings are grouped into four distinct collections: Men’s fragrances, Women’s fragrances, the Classic collection, and the Private collection. Remarkably, many of Floris’ earliest scents, such as Limes (1832) and Stephanotis (1786), remain popular choices alongside newer creations like Sirena (2011), designed to cater to contemporary sensibilities.
In addition to fragrances, Floris also provides a range of bath and body care products, as well as candles and home fragrances that complement their olfactory offerings. Furthermore, the brand offers a unique service that allows customers to customize an existing Floris scent, providing an opportunity for a bespoke perfume creation.
In 2010, Floris celebrated its remarkable 280th anniversary, marking the occasion with the release of a limited edition perfume named 280. The brand’s diverse portfolio is a testament to its creative prowess, with a total of 66 perfumes in their extensive fragrance base. Notably, Floris is recognized as an esteemed perfume house, with its oldest creation dating back to 1786, and new blends continuously added, with the latest release in 2023. Perfumers such as Shelagh Foyle, Penny Ellis, and Nicola Pozzani have all collaborated with Floris to craft their exceptional fragrances.
