My expertise in natural botanical perfume making has blossomed through my deep appreciation for music, particularly the art form of opera. Just as music captivates our souls, perfume holds a similar power. The harmonious fusion of these two passions ignites a profound sense of satisfaction within me, as I am able to elevate them beyond their individual realms.
My journey into this craft began humbly with a DIY kit. Mixing and experimenting proved to be delightful experiences, and as time passed, I eagerly awaited the moment of completion. Upon smelling the final product, I couldn’t help but think, “Hmm, this turned out rather impressive.” Motivated by this initial success, I proceeded to expand my knowledge through Mandy Aftel’s enlightening book, Essence and Alchemy. The book enraptured me, especially when it likened individual essences to musical notes. It was a revelation that struck a chord with my musical background, having majored in Music at Simpson College with a specific focus on opera. It appeared as though the universe was orchestrating the union of my two great loves. The prospect of crafting melodies for the senses enticed and tantalized me. Subsequently, I began acquiring a plethora of captivating substances from reputable suppliers, eagerly immersing myself in the alchemy of creation.
For me, the art of perfume making holds a deeply spiritual significance. Working with plant-based materials that have been utilized for countless generations, including esteemed figures such as Cleopatra, grounds me and connects me to the Earth. It is not without purpose that individuals find themselves emotionally moved by the allure of natural perfumes. Their essence speaks to our souls, fostering a profound connection and stirring our senses in ways previously unknown.
Central to my personal philosophy is the belief that we should be conscious of the substances we introduce to our bodies, whether they are ingested or applied externally. The skin, our largest organ, bears witness to the countless chemicals we unknowingly expose it to each day – a particularly pertinent concern for women. Taking this into consideration, the creation of natural perfumes is my way of promoting a healthier approach to self-care, ensuring that what we encounter daily is both nurturing and safe.
In many ways, perfume making resembles the art of crafting wine, insisting upon the virtue of patience. Like a vintner, waiting for the alchemical magic to unfold, I understand the importance of granting each perfume the necessary time to mature and develop its full potential.

Esscentual Alchemy is a relatively new fragrance brand, its earliest creation dating back to 2010, and the most recent crafted in 2017.
