Dzintars, a prominent company in the cosmetics industry, has a rich history that spans over one and a half centuries. The story of Dzintars begins in the mid-19th century when A. Briger’s soap and perfumery factory was established in Riga in 1849. Initially focused on producing soap, candles, and importing ready-made perfume compositions from France, the company gradually expanded its operations.
During the latter half of the 19th century and early 20th century, numerous small perfumery and cosmetics enterprises emerged in various Latvian towns. However, in 1940, as part of a nationalization effort, several companies, including A. Briger’s factory, were transformed into the soap and perfumery factory Sarcana Ausma. The restructuring also affected other enterprises, such as the chemical, candle, and tube factory Metra, the perfumery factory Flora, and the tube-cosmetics factory Rota.
In 1951, as part of another wave of reorganization, the factory known as Metra was renamed Dzintars. Subsequently, in 1958, Dzintars merged with the soap factory Sarcana Ausma, and the combined entity retained the name Dzintars. Over time, the company experienced growth and expansion due to the implementation of automation and mechanization. In 1969, a state-of-the-art facility was built on the outskirts of Riga, which facilitated improved production processes.
The early 1970s witnessed significant advancements in equipment and mechanization, enabling Dzintars to expand its capabilities in the preparation and pouring of perfumery and cosmetic liquids, manufacturing of aluminum tubes, and packaging of creams and toothpastes. As a result of these developments, Dzintars experienced increased production volume and efficiency.
In January 1976, Dzintars underwent a legal transformation and became Riga’s Manufacturing Union of the perfumery and cosmetics industry, operating under the name Dzintars. In October 1991, the company took a significant step by establishing itself as a Joint Stock Company, a decision that was officially formalized in November of the same year.
Today, after a journey marked by substantial growth and transformation, Dzintars proudly holds the position of the largest manufacturer of biocosmetics and perfumery in the Baltics. Its product line includes an impressive range of fragrances, with 366 perfumes in the fragrance base. Dzintars, an esteemed perfume house with a legacy dating back to 1948, continues to collaborate with renowned perfumers such as Bronislava Schwarzman, Antonina Vitkovskaya, Vera Lakotkina, Liesma Oše, Milda Gulbe, Marta Irbena, Liliya Osipova, Aina Pashko, Ilya Gerchikov, and Artyushkova M.L.
