Dsquared2 is a prominent Canadian fashion brand founded by the talented twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten. Prior to their groundbreaking venture, the brothers briefly studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, immersing themselves in the world of fashion and eventually serving as creative directors of Ports 1961.
In pursuit of their dream to establish their own fashion empire, the brothers embarked on a journey to Italy in 1991. Their diligence and immense talent led to designing work for renowned brands such as Versace and Diesel. This invaluable experience laid the foundation for their first menswear collection under the Dsquared2 label, which debuted in Milan. Backed by financial support from Diesel, the collection achieved tremendous success.
Buoyed by their triumph in menswear, the brothers expanded their horizons and ventured into womenswear, unveiling their inaugural womenswear collection in 2002. Their extraordinary designs earned them accolades and recognition, with a front-page feature in the esteemed publication “Women’s Wear Daily.” The following year, Dsquared2 signed a licensing agreement that expanded their brand’s offerings to encompass footwear, accessories, and fragrances.
One noteworthy aspect of the Dsquared2 brand is its sensational fashion shows characterized by extravagance and energy. These shows often feature renowned musicians and celebrities like Rihanna and Christina Aguilera, who make memorable entrances and grace the runway. The brand’s designs have amassed a devoted celebrity following, frequently appearing in music videos and serving as costumes for world tours. For example, Madonna entrusted the Caten brothers with designing costumes for her esteemed 2002 “Drowned World” tour, while Britney Spears incorporated Dsquared2 clothing into her 2009 Circus tour.
Apart from the acclaim received from celebrities, Dsquared2 has also garnered numerous fashion awards, including the prestigious Golden Needle in Spain and the esteemed La Kore award in Italy. Additionally, the brand has been recognized by GQ magazine, winning distinctions such as Best Breakthrough Design Team and Men of the Year in both GQ Spain and the American edition.
In 2007, Dsquared2 introduced its inaugural fragrance, He Wood, which was followed by the launch of the companion women’s fragrance, She Wood, in 2008. Produced in collaboration with the esteemed ITF Group, Dsquared2 fragrances are a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence. With a range of 23 perfumes in their fragrance base, the brand has enlisted the expertise of renowned perfumers such as Olivier Cresp, Daphné Bugey, Alberto Morillas, Annick Menardo, Mathilde Bijaoui, Christine Nagel, and Aurelien Guichard.
