Domenico Caraceni (1880 – 1940) is widely recognized as the pioneer of Italian tailoring, having founded his own tailor shop in Rome, Italy in 1913. Hailing from the esteemed Caraceni family, who had a longstanding tradition of tailoring, Domenico, alongside his brothers Galliano and Augusto, acquired their craftsmanship from their father Tommaso Caraceni of Ortona a Mare. Unfortunately, the shop, which opened in 1913, was forced to close its doors just two years later due to the outbreak of war.

In 1926, Domenico Caraceni established his primary boutique at Via Boncompagni 21 in Rome, subsequently expanding his operations to Milan, Naples, and Paris. Notably, the Paris atelier was skillfully managed by Domenico’s brother, Augusto. Fusing his knowledge of English tailoring imparted by Francesco Paolo Tosti with various Italian and international techniques, Domenico believed he had developed a brand-new style, characterized by the fusion of these distinctive elements, resulting in suits that were both elegant and lightweight. His convictions and expertise culminated in the publication of his book, “Orientamenti nuovi nella tecnica e nell’arte del sarto” (“New Tendencies in the Technique and Art of Tailoring”) in 1933.

Today, several separate tailoring businesses operate under the Caraceni name. The original shop in Rome continues to thrive with a small but dedicated team and is currently owned by Tommy and Giulio Caraceni, Domenico’s nephews. In Milan, the brand boasts three branches, yet A. Caraceni, overseen by Augusto Mario Caraceni’s son, is reputed to be the pinnacle of their offerings. Meanwhile, Gianni Campagna, a former apprentice at Sartoria Domenico Caraceni in Milan, acquired the Sartoria Domenico Caraceni brand in 1998. His company, operating under this esteemed name, meticulously crafts luxurious made-to-measure suits from the exquisite Palazzo Bernasconi in Milan.

Notably, renowned designer Domenico Caraceni’s olfactory creations extend beyond the realm of tailoring. Within our fragrance base, you will find a collection of four perfumes associated with his name. The earliest edition dates back to 2007, with the most recent being unveiled in 2022.
