Diptyque, an esteemed French perfume house, had its humble beginnings in 1961 when it was founded by three visionary artists: Yves Coueslant, a talented set designer; Desmond Knox-Leet, a renowned painter; and Christiane Gautrot, a skilled textile designer. Their creative collaboration led to the establishment of the flagship salon, Diptyque, located on Paris’ Boulevard St. Germain. Originally specializing in home furnishings and imported scents from England, Diptyque soon expanded its repertoire in 1963 by introducing scented candles, which quickly became a signature offering.
In 1968, Diptyque’s first fragrance, L’Eau, was unveiled. This exquisite scent drew inspiration from antique English recipes used for crafting home fragrances. The founders’ shared passion for exploration infused their creations, with many scents taking inspiration from their various travels around the world.
Since its inception, Diptyque has continued to captivate discerning fragrance enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. With an impressive range of 83 perfumes in their fragrance base, Diptyque consistently pushes the boundaries of artistic olfactory experiences. Collaborating with esteemed perfumers such as Fabrice Pellegrin, Daniel Moliere, Serge Kalouguine, Olivier Pescheux, Olivia Giacobetti, Desmond Knox-Leet, Akiko Kamei, Alexandra Carlin, and Cecile Matton, Diptyque has successfully curated a collection of timeless and evocative scents.
