David Yurman Inc. is a prestigious American jewelry company founded by David Yurman, with its headquarters located in New York City. Renowned for its exquisite jewelry and watch collections, this family-owned business has established itself as a leader in the industry. Presently, the company boasts 18 boutiques across the United States and four boutiques in three international cities. In 2008, they expanded their reach by opening their first international store and Asia headquarters in the vibrant city of Hong Kong.
David Yurman’s journey began in Long Island, NY, where he grew up. His initial foray into the world of design involved selling small sculptures in his high school cafeteria. Through sheer determination, Yurman honed his skills as a sculptor by apprenticing under renowned artists such as Jacques Lipshitz and Theodore Rozack, who had collaborated with artistic giants like Picasso and Modigliani. During this time, he also found inspiration while residing in the beatnik artist colony of Big Sur, where he was able to fully express his creative talents.
In the late 1960s, destiny brought David Yurman to the studio of sculptor Hans Van de Bovenkamp, where he crossed paths with Sybil Kleinrock, a gifted painter who would later become his wife. Together, they embarked on a new artistic endeavor, forming Putnam Art Works in the early 1970s. Their designs and paintings were featured in various craft fairs, allowing them to delve deeper into the world of fine crafts and jewelry. This exploration ultimately led to the establishment of the iconic brand and company, David Yurman, in 1980.
Yurman gained widespread acclaim with the introduction of his cable bracelet, which has since become the company’s signature piece. This twisted helix bracelet, adorned with gemstones on its finial ends, debuted in 1982 and captured the hearts of jewelry enthusiasts worldwide. Over the years, the brand has continued to innovate with popular collections such as Silver Ice, featuring silver pieces with pave diamonds, as well as the Buckle Collection and the X collection. The company has also ventured into designing a range of jewelry and watches for both men and women, along with their own signature fragrance and eyewear collection.
In 2008, David Yurman made a dynamic entry into the world of perfumery with the launch of their first fragrance, mirroring the complexity and artistry of their jewelry collections. Harry Fremont, a renowned nose in the industry, was entrusted with creating these luxurious fragrances. Since then, the brand has released a total of 13 perfumes, with the latest edition being introduced in 2020.
