Christian Lacroix, a renowned French fashion designer, is the visionary behind the eponymous fashion house. Born and raised in Arles, he exhibited an early artistic talent and initially pursued a career as a museum curator, studying art history. However, fate led him to the world of fashion when he secured a position as an assistant at Hermès in 1978. This marked the beginning of Lacroix’s journey in the industry.

Lacroix’s collaboration with the Tokyo Imperial Court on costume design paved the way for his breakthrough opportunity at Jean Patou in 1981. Impressed by his impeccable skills, Lacroix decided to establish his own fashion house in 1986. His distinct style, characterized by vivid colors, intricate patterns, elaborate ruffles, poufs, and pleats, epitomized the flamboyance of 1980s fashion. While Lacroix’s couture designs gained widespread acclaim for their beauty, sensuality, and luxurious fabrics, they were also criticized for their lack of practicality. Despite the critical acclaim, Lacroix’s couture designs did not translate into significant financial success.

Undeterred, Lacroix expanded his empire in 1987 to include ready-to-wear collections, as well as a range of accessories such as jewelry, handbags, shoes, glasses, scarves, and ties. His boutiques soon dotted fashion capitals such as Paris, London, and Geneva, along with locations in Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Toulouse, and Japan. In 2004, he delved into menswear and served as the Creative Director of Pucci from 2002 to 2005, further solidifying his reputation as a prolific fashion designer.

Christian Lacroix bid farewell to haute couture in 2009, presenting his final collection in this esteemed realm. However, in 2010, the company encountered financial hardships, resulting in its administration. Under the stewardship of Sacha Walckhoff, the brand embarked on a new chapter.

Christian Lacroix’s fragrances, an extension of his vibrant, eccentric style, first made their debut in 1990 with C’est La Vie. The fragrance came in a distinctive bottle shape, with a coral branch stopper, enclosed in a bright pink box. Following this, sea-shell-shaped bottles were utilized for fragrances such as Christian Lacroix for Women, Eau Florale, and Eau Florale Bleue. Inter Parfums Inc. collaborated with Lacroix to create these fragrances. In 2007, the designer forged a partnership with Avon, resulting in the release of a series of perfumes for both men and women, featuring vividly-colored bottles adorned with intricate designs.

Currently, Christian Lacroix boasts an impressive collection of 14 perfumes, with the earliest fragrance dating back to 1990 and the latest to 2008. These fragrances were developed in collaboration with esteemed perfumers such as Bertrand Duchaufour, Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann, Jean-Claude Ellena, Michel Girard, Jean Jacques, Edouard Flechier, Sophia Grojsman, Nathalie Lorson, Beatrice Piquet, Pascal Gaurin, Yves Cassar, Laurent Le Guernec, Carlos Benaim, Francoise Caron, and Natalie Gracia-Cetto.
