Cerruti, an esteemed Italian fashion house, traces its origins back to the textiles industry. Established in 1881 by brothers Stefano, Antonio, and Quintino Cerruti, Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti, a wool-specializing textile mill, came to life in the quaint town of Biella. After Antonio’s passing in 1950, his son Silvio assumed control of the business, only to meet an untimely end. The reins were then passed on to Silvio’s son, Nino Cerruti, a mere 20-year-old at the time. With a fresh approach, Nino introduced modern techniques to the mill, leading to remarkable success and the expansion of operations to two additional factories.

Nino’s passion gradually shifted from textiles to fashion design, leading to the launch of his inaugural men’s collection, aptly named “Hitman,” in 1957. The brand, Cerruti, received formal recognition in 1967 with the opening of a boutique at Place de la Madeleine in Paris. Both menswear and womenswear embraced fabrics produced at the renowned Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti. Cerruti swiftly developed a reputation for its superb fabrics and clean cuts, with its specialty lying in classic wool suits. The illustrious designer Giorgio Armani contributed to the Hitman and Cerruti labels in the early stages of his career.

Throughout the years, Cerruti diversified its offerings and introduced Cerruti 1881, a diffusion line, along with Cerruti Arte, a luxurious ready-to-wear collection. Cerruti Jeans and the Cerruti Brothers business collection catered to men, and Cerruti 1881 Shapes specifically targeted the Asian market. Eventually, all these esteemed clothing lines were integrated under the Cerruti 1881 label. As a preferred outfitter of celebrities, Cerruti frequently provides designs and garments for use in the film industry.

Fragrances have consistently played a significant role in the Cerruti brand’s journey. The company’s inaugural fragrance, Nino Cerruti for Men, graced the market in 1978, initiating a long line of timeless scents. The first women’s fragrance, Nino Cerruti Pour Femme, debuted in 1987. In 2000, Nino Cerruti chose to retire from the fashion house to concentrate on the textile business. Presently, under the creative direction of Jesper Borjesson for menswear and Richard Nicoll for womenswear, Cerruti continues to thrive. Coty collaborates with the brand to produce Cerruti fragrances, which remain in production today under both the Cerruti and Cerruti 1881 labels.
