Founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, the illustrious house of Cartier has solidified its place in the world of luxury jewelry and impeccable craftsmanship. With a meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to creating beautiful pieces, the company’s reputation flourished throughout the late 1800s, thanks in part to the contributions of Louis’ son Alfred and grandsons Louis, Pierre, and Jacques.
The turning point for Cartier came in 1904, when Louis Cartier designed and introduced the first wristwatch, known as the “Santos,” for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. This groundbreaking timepiece propelled Cartier into the limelight and caught the attention of esteemed individuals and aristocrats worldwide. With their exquisite jewelry and unparalleled watches, Cartier became a coveted brand throughout the 20th century.
Although family ownership of the business came to an end in 1964, Cartier continued to expand its influence and presence by establishing boutiques across the globe. In the 1970s, the brand diversified its offerings, venturing into leather goods, pens, and scarves. The company also made its mark in the fragrance industry, introducing its first fragrances, Must de Cartier for women and Santos de Cartier for men, in 1981. These fragrances, along with subsequent releases, mirrored the namesakes of Cartier’s iconic jewelry collections and timepieces.
Today, Cartier boasts an impressive collection of 123 perfumes in our fragrance base. These fragrances have been crafted in collaboration with renowned perfumers such as Mathilde Laurent, Jean-Claude Ellena, Christine Nagel, Alberto Morillas, Jean-Jacques Diener, Nathalie Feisthauer, Jacques Cavallier, Mark Buxton, Daniel Moliere, and Jean Guichard. Since the creation of its first fragrance in 1981, Cartier has consistently upheld its reputation for excellence and innovation. With the introduction of new fragrances as recent as 2023, Cartier continues to captivate fragrance enthusiasts with its timeless elegance and artistic flair.
