Carla Fracci, an esteemed ballerina who graced the stages of La Scala in Milan, is celebrated as one of the most renowned and accomplished primadonnas. With her extensive repertoire and notable performances, Fracci captivated audiences worldwide. In a mesmerizing portrayal, she even added the main male role in the ballet Hamlet to her repertoire, under the direction of Beppe Menegattiho and accompanied by the captivating music composed by Dimitrij Shostakovich, performed at the prestigious Elizabethan Theatre.
Fracci’s dance style is a manifestation of enchanting fairy tales, imbued with grace and fluidity. Her movements carry an ethereal quality, sometimes embracing dramatic elements, all delivered with a unique and extraordinary expression.
Born in Milan in 1936, Fracci’s journey into the world of ballet began at the La Scala Ballet School in 1946, where she studied under the esteemed guidance of Vera Volkova and other accomplished teachers. She completed her training in 1954 and swiftly rose through the ranks, being promoted to the soloist position in 1956 and eventually attaining the esteemed role of principal dancer in 1958. Throughout her illustrious career, Fracci assumed key roles at La Scala, including Juliet in Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet (1958) and Elvira in Massine’s Don Giovanni (1959). Additionally, she collaborated with renowned companies such as the London Festival Ballet in 1959 and 1962, the Royal Ballet in 1963, the Stuttgart Ballet in 1965, and the Royal Swedish Ballet in 1969. Notably, from 1967, she held the prestigious position of principal guest artist at the American Ballet Theatre.
Fracci is primarily revered for her compelling performances in romantic roles. Fondly referred to as “The Eleonora Duse of the ballet” and “The Legendary,” she left an indelible mark with her portrayal of Giselle. Collaborating with esteemed partners like Rudolf Nureyev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Henning Kronstam, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Erik Bruhn, Fracci’s rendition of Giselle garnered widespread acclaim, with her interpretation alongside Bruhn being immortalized on film in 1969. Further enchanting audiences, Fracci showcased her artistry in captivating roles such as Sylphide, Swanilda, and Juliet. Apart from her ventures as a dancer, Fracci also achieved considerable success as the director of ballet in Naples from 1990 to 1991 and in Verona from 1995 to 1997. Currently, she serves as the director of Balletto dell’Opera di Roma.

In 2003, Fracci ventured into the world of perfumery, introducing her eponymous fragrance for women, Carla Fracci. Over the years, she has designed six distinct perfumes for women. A standout creation came in 2009 with the release of “Hamlet for Women,” which artfully explores the contrasts between the masculine and feminine through its diverse composition. Balancing the harmonious blend of gentle, fresh, spicy, and woody elements, this fragrance encapsulates natural freshness paired with an invigorating and dynamic allure.
The fragrance opens with top notes that incorporate zesty citrus, aquatic accords, and crisp pear, setting the stage for a refreshing and juicy introduction. The heart notes interlace magnolia, white pepper, and peony, while the base notes leave a captivating trail of Guaiac wood, sandalwood, and white amber. As a fragrance, “Hamlet for Women” incorporates fresh essences, exotic spices, and precious woods, offering a compelling juxtaposition that mirrors Hamlet’s introspective nature and complex persona.
Presented in an elegant and modern black flacon, discreetly engraved with the brand’s name in white, the perfume exudes luxury and sophistication. Additionally, a luxurious edition is available, enclosed in a stunning black bottle with a glass stopper, showcasing the essence of this perfume in its purest form. Notably, designer Carla Fracci boasts eight distinctive perfumes in the fragrance base, with the earliest edition launched in 2003 and the newest creation unveiled in 2014.
