Byblos is a renowned Italian fashion brand that was established in 1973 as a division of Genny SpA, a prominent fashion house. Originally, a group of talented stylists created the first collections, but it was young and aspiring designer Gianni Versace who took the fashion world by storm with his lines in 1975 and 1976. Following Versace’s departure, French designer Guy Paulin assumed creative control before Keith Varty and Alan Cleaver became the head designers of Byblos.

Byblos quickly established itself as a fashion brand that catered to the youthful, optimistic, and joyful. Both the women’s and men’s wear collections are characterized by vibrant colors and contemporary designs, often drawing inspiration from the designers’ travels around the world. While Byblos enjoyed success initially, the public’s preferences shifted towards more elegant and sophisticated styles, causing a decline in interest for Byblos’ fun and whimsical creations.

One aspect of Byblos that has consistently resonated with customers is its line of perfumes. The first fragrance, Byblos, was introduced in the feminine category and featured a floral-fruity composition created by the talented perfume designer Ilias Ermenidis. Building on the success of this women’s fragrance, Byblos Uomo, an aromatic and spicy scent for men, was launched in 1993.

In 1997, Byblos released a range of fragrances that captivated the market. Byblos Mare, a fragrance for women, embraced a captivating blend of mandarin orange, lilac, waterlily, violet, rose, jasmine, vetiver, sandalwood, and musk. Cielo, a fresh and spicy scent, boasted invigorating notes of mandarin orange, coconut, pepper, nutmeg, jasmine, lily of the valley, sandalwood, patchouli, and musk. Another women’s fragrance, Fuoco, represented the element of fire and featured a rich combination of cinnamon, spices, sandalwood, vanilla, and citruses. Meanwhile, Terra, with its floral composition, incorporated notes such as violet, citruses, galbanum, cyclamen, rose, freesia, jasmine, orris root, heliotrope, sandalwood, cedar, and musk.

In 2000, Byblos introduced two fragrances, Uragano (oriental-floral) and Brezza (floral-green), both of which garnered positive attention. Additionally, a collection of three fragrances, Musk, Sandalo, and Patchouly, was launched in 2002. Despite their simplistic names, these perfumes showcased complexity and versatility through their incorporation of flowers, fruits, woods, and spices.

Continuing its commitment to innovation, Byblos unveiled Bamboo in 2004. A follow-up to the original Byblos Uomo, this men’s fragrance combined bamboo, citruses, spices, musk, and floral accords to create a captivating composition. The brand expanded its men’s fragrance lineup in 2005 with the release of three scents: Blu Men Energy, Blue Man Cool, and Blue Man Enjoy.

The year 2006 witnessed the launch of Blu Happy Hour, an invigorating and fruity chypre fragrance, as well as Blue Light Fever, which captivated with its floral-fruity composition. Byblos Water Flower hit the shelves in 2007, incorporating refreshing notes of peach, apple, sparkling bitter grapefruit, sea notes, lily of the valley, waterlily, rose, freesia, lavender, soft vanilla, Australian sandalwood, and sensual white musk.

In 2011, Byblos introduced In Black, a sophisticated fragrance for men that exuded woody and aromatic accords. With grapefruit, neroli, sweet notes, vetiver, woods, and resins, In Black became a sought-after scent among fragrance enthusiasts.

Throughout its history, Byblos has amassed an impressive collection of 40 perfumes, each created in collaboration with renowned perfumers such as Philippe Roques, IFF, Fabrice Pellegrin, Anne-Sophie Chapuis, Violaine David, Christine Nagel, Guillaume Flavigny, Daphné Bugey, Pierre-Constantin Guéros, Henri Bergia, and Celine Ripert.
