Brooklyn Perfume Company is an independent fragrance house that was founded by the accomplished James Peterson, a chemist and culinary expert. Throughout his career, Peterson traveled extensively, gaining inspiration from various cultures and cuisines. After honing his skills in some of the most prestigious French restaurants, he returned to New York to establish the renowned Le Petit Robert. Sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise, he later became a distinguished professor at The French Culinary Institute and a celebrated author, with his debut book, Sauces, receiving the esteemed James Beard Award for Cookbook of the Year in 1991. Peterson’s success continued with the publication of fifteen additional books, earning him multiple awards and recognition, including another James Beard award for Cooking in 2008.

Motivated by his passion for cuisine, Peterson’s curiosity extended beyond the culinary realm and led him to explore the world of fragrances. This fortuitous journey began when he came across a reference to ambergris, an aromatic substance, in a 16th-century French culinary text. Intrigued by its olfactory properties, Peterson ventured into experimenting with aromatic substances, becoming an olfactory sensualist in his own right. This newfound fascination eventually culminated in the establishment of the Brooklyn Perfume Company in 2015.

As a relatively new fragrance brand, Brooklyn Perfume Company has quickly made a mark in the industry. Under the direction of Peterson, the brand has introduced eight exquisite perfumes, all meticulously crafted and launched in 2015.
