Borsari is a historic Italian perfumery renowned for its traditional Parma perfume. Founded in 1897 by barber Lodovico Borsari in Parma, the house has a rich heritage. One of their most iconic fragrances, Violetta de Parma, was originally developed by monks for Duchess Maria Luigia (Marie Louise), the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. Known for her love of violets, the duchess used their motif in her signature and even wrote letters using violet ink. Supporting the monks at the Monastery of the Annunciata in their research, she obtained an essence identical to that of the violet flower and leaves. Around 1870, Lodovico Borsari acquired the secret formula for this perfume and began producing it for a wider audience. Violetta de Parma gained popularity for its simple yet timeless aroma, characterized by a fresh, powdery sweetness.
Another notable creation from Borsari is Aqua Classica di Parma, crafted in 1880. With a portfolio comprising 25 perfumes, Borsari is an esteemed perfume house.
