Bijan is a renowned men’s fashion house that was established by Persian designer Bijan Pakzad. Bijan, known professionally by his first name, migrated to the United States in 1973 and co-founded a menswear boutique in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive in 1976 alongside his partner Dar Mahboubi. The designer’s reputation was built on his commitment to creating high-quality, luxurious fashion pieces and the exclusivity of his showroom, which operated on an “by appointment only” basis. Considered the epitome of luxury, the boutique continues to be hailed as “the most expensive store in the world.” In 1983, a second boutique was opened in New York.
Bijan has had the honor of dressing some of the world’s most influential and prominent men, including U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush. Other notable clients also included British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as acclaimed entertainers like Tom Cruise, Usher, and Jay Leno. Bijan, himself, was known for his distinctive personal style, which was reflected not only in the design of his shop but also in his homes and his collection of automobiles. His fleet comprised of customized luxury vehicles from renowned brands such as Mercedes, Rolls Royce, and Ferrari, all sporting their signature yellow and black colors. These eye-catching cars were often seen parked in front of his boutique, enhancing the allure of the brand.
In 2010, Bijan collaborated with automakers Rolls Royce Motors and Bugatti to introduce exclusive editions of their vehicles. This partnership allowed Bijan to extend his unique style and influence beyond the realm of fashion. The House of Bijan further diversified its offerings to include jewelry, watches, accessories, and fragrances. Bijan Pakzad unfortunately passed away in April 2011, leaving the responsibility of carrying forward his legacy to his longtime business partner and friend, Dar Mahboubi. Today, the company thrives under his guidance, with Bijan’s three children also actively involved in the business. For over three decades, Daniela, his daughter, has served as the creative director, contributing her innovative vision to the brand’s continued success.
Bijan’s fragrances have garnered significant recognition in the industry. The first fragrances, Bijan for men and women, were launched in 1987. Bijan for Men earned the prestigious FiFi award for Men’s fragrance of the year in 1987. The fragrance collection, distinguished by its distinctive round bottles and caps, has gained widespread popularity and has received multiple nominations and awards throughout the years. Currently, Five Star Fragrances holds the fragrance license for Bijan. The house has released a total of 20 perfumes, with the earliest edition debuting in 1986 and the most recent in 2008. Notable perfumers such as Peter Bohm, James Krivda, Givaudan, and Claude Dir have collaborated with Bijan to create these captivating fragrances.
