The origin of fragrance can be traced back to ancient rituals in which oils and incense were burned as offerings to gods and ancestors. This practice, known as “per-fumum” in Latin, meaning “by means of smoke,” reveals the magical and mysterious beginnings of fragrance.

Throughout history, the art of creating fragrances has evolved into a complex and extraordinary craft. It has become an object of admiration and desire worldwide. It is fascinating to think that my name, as the creator, muse, and sponsor, has become synonymous with the world of fragrances and its exceptional craftsmanship.

I was born in Florence on April 13, 1519, to parents Lorenzo de Medici and Maddalena de La Tour d’Auvergne. Unfortunately, I became an orphan at a young age, as both my parents passed away the same year I was born.

From an early age, I became acquainted with the world of perfumes through the monks and alchemists in our court. They crafted exquisite distilled essences from herbs, introducing me to the transformative power of fragrance. Back then, fragrances were an essential part of daily life, especially for ladies and nobility, as a means of showcasing their social standing.

In 1533, due to political alliances, my family arranged my marriage to the Duke of Orleans, who would later become the King of France. In order to feel connected to my beloved Florence, I brought with me the things that held the most sentimental value in my life, including my cherished fragrances.

I ensured that I was accompanied by the best chefs, pastry cooks, ice cream makers, musicians, astrologers, artists, and most importantly, my personal perfumer, Renato Bianco. Throughout my entire life, Renato Bianco remained by my side, creating unforgettable fragrance inventions.

The journey to Marseille, where the Duke resided, was quite challenging for me. It was a stark contrast to the refined and fragrant environment I was accustomed to. The city was filled with unpleasant odors and unhygienic conditions. People, curious to see me, approached me with rancid and putrid smells. At that time, personal hygiene was not a priority, even among the highest nobility. Taking a bath, especially in the winter, was seen as unnecessary and potentially dangerous.

In the present day, the brand Ars Mirabile has emerged as a new fragrance brand. Designed by Ars Mirabile, it offers a collection of six perfumes, all introduced in 2016.
