Aqualis is derived from the combination of ‘Aqua’ and ‘Qualis’, which embody the core principles of our brand. The term ‘Aqua’ represents the essence of our fragrances and perfumes, symbolizing the heart and soul of our brand. On the other hand, ‘Qualis’ stems from the Latin word ‘Qualia’, a philosophical term that encompasses the subjective qualities of experiences, characterized by the transformation of the unfamiliar into the familiar. Qualia defines our individuality and how we perceive the world through our senses. Aqualis, therefore, encapsulates the very nature of the human experience.

Our senses play a crucial role in shaping our understanding of the world around us, and choosing the right fragrance can profoundly influence and enhance the atmosphere in a way that is tangible yet difficult to quantify. It is through this belief that Aqualis founder, Steyn Grobler, found his inspiration. Having grown up in South Africa and later moving to London, Steyn embarked on a career in the luxury industry at a young age, working as a model and collaborating with renowned photographers and stylists for esteemed publications such as GQ and Vogue. His global travels, attending fashion weeks across various countries, further enriched his perspective.

During his studies, Steyn took on a part-time job at Harrods, which gradually transitioned into a managerial role at Boadicea the Victorious. It was during this time that Steyn’s fascination with fragrances blossomed, as he developed some of the most notable scents for the brand. After five years at Boadicea the Victorious, Steyn decided to pursue his lifelong dream of expressing his own unique creative vision, thus giving birth to Aqualis.

The Evolution range, which holds a special place in Steyn’s heart, reflects significant experiences from his own life. From his upbringing in Pretoria to his time spent in the Namibian Desert and Brenton on Sea during holidays, Steyn draws inspiration from the indigenous oils of southern Africa to showcase these concepts. He combines this with contemporary artwork and packaging that immerses consumers in a multisensory experience.

Aqualis aims to stimulate wearers to contemplate conceptual ideas and creativity, transcending mere fragrances and inviting them to embark on a journey of self-expression and exploration.

As a brand, Aqualis offers 11 distinctive perfumes in our fragrance collection. We take pride in being a new fragrance brand that has quickly made an impact in the industry. Our earliest creation dates back to 2016, and we continue to push boundaries with our latest fragrances released in 2022. Our perfumes have been meticulously crafted in collaboration with esteemed perfumers such as Jean-Charles Mignon, Amandine Galliano, Chris Maurice, Celine Guivarch, and Florian Gallo, ensuring that every scent is a testament to our commitment to quality and innovation.
